Public Celebration of 150th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi on 1st October 2018.
October 03, 2018Embassy of India, Beirut celebrated 150th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi with a public event in cooperation with American University of Beirut (AUB) and Association for Development of Lebanese-Indian Relations (ADLIR) on Monday, 1st October 2018 at Bathish Auditorium, AUB campus.
The event marked the starting of year-long celebrations of 150th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.
The program during the event included remarks by Ambassador of India to Lebanon, HE Sanjiv Arora; screening of a documentary on Mahatma Gandhi; a panel discussion on “Mahatma Gandhi’s eternal and universal message”; and devotional songs by students attending classes at Embassy of India.
The panelists for the discussion were: Mr Ali Ghandour, President of the Association for Development of Lebanese-Indian Relations (ADLIR); HE Mr. Fouad Makhzoumi, Member of Parliament; Dr. Alwan Amin Eddine, Founder and Director, SITA Institute (Think-tank on international affairs); and Ms. Mona Mounayer, Founder-Owner, TRIARC I FIREHORSE (TV Director, Researcher). The panel discussion was moderated by Ambassador Sanjiv Arora.
The event saw a large and broad-based gathering to pay tribute to the Mahatma.
The event was concluded by a moving tribute paid by Ms Abeer Nehme, renowned Lebanese singer by singing ‘ VAISHNAV JAN TO TENE KAHIYE JE’- a devotional song in Gujarati.
