India in Spring Festival 2016

Performance of Indian Classical Dance - Kathakali, titled 'From Mahabharata Epic', by the Kerala Kathakali Centre on Sunday, 8th May 2016, at 8.30 p.m., in Sunflower Theatre.

Founded in 1990, in Kochi, the oldest state in Kerala, Kerala Kathakali Centre is one of the most famous Kathakali theatres in South India. Kathakali, being one of the oldest dance theatre forms in the world combining literature, music, painting, acting and dance, this performance is an invitation to immerse in the traditional Hindu mythology. From Mahabharata Epic starts with a 30 minute make-up session to create the Kathakali mask then goes into a demonstration of Kathakali's basic facial expression techniques to end with excerpts from the Epic of Mahabharata. Indian Classical Dance is performed according to rituals by two classical Indian female dancers whose vivid exprression demonstrated by the virtuous movement of their eyes, hands and feet narrates the dramatic aspects of nature and emotions.
