SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAMME FOR DIASPORA CHILDREN

Since the Academic Year 2006-07, the Government of India has been awarding scholarship to the PIOs & NRIs children under SPDC scheme. The objective of the Government was to make higher education in Indian Universities/Institutes accessible to the diaspora children and promote India as a center for higher studies. Scholarship is offered for pursuing specified undergraduate courses in Central Universities in India, Institutions accredited “A” Grade by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) and recognized by the University Grant Commission (UGC) and other institutions covered under DASA Scheme, NITs, School of Planning & Architecture and Indian Institutes of Information & Technology.

2.         This scheme is open to applicants in the age group of 17 to 21 years as on the specified date. They must not be in receipt of any other assistance under a scheme sponsored or funded by Government of India. 75% of the tuition fee, hostel and other charges limited to a maximum of US$ 4000/- per year is covered under the scholarship. The scholarship is paid for the entire duration of the course subject to fulfillment of prescribed conditions which is also available on spdc portal (spdcindia.gov.in). The monthly income of the parents of the applicants should not exceed US$4000/-. The scheme is applicable to 68 countries. Total slots offered per year under the scheme are 150, out of which 50 are earmarked for children of Indian working in 17 ECR countries and 1/3rd of these 50 slots are reserved for children ( of Indian working in 17 ECR countries) living and studying in India.
