Ambassador’s talk at Haigazian University on “India – Where The Past Meets The Future”.

April 14, 2016

Haigazian University, Beirut, presented a talk by Anita Nayar, the Indian Ambassador, on “India – Where The Past Meets The Future” on 14th April, 2016.

The event, which also featured Indian food, was graced by the presence of President Hadostian, members of the University Board and other distinguished guests. It began with a song from the 1950's film "Shree 420" which anticipated the strength of nationalism despite globalisation, and another song about the beauty of the land of one's birth. This was followed by a presentation of classical Bharatanatyam dance and then a demonstration of how those classical steps could be fused with the Bollywood music of today.  Ambassador then spoke on “India – Where The Past Meets The Future”, highlighting that in most countries, the past has either been superseded (Ancient Egypt, Greece, Rome) or still is dominant but in India, our ancient traditions are still part of our daily life but we have also modernised and adapted to the trends of the future; moreover, many of our traditions such as Yoga are now being seen as the future. The event ended with an extended Q&A session.
