Seminar on “Women in India and Lebanon” on March 29, 2022

On the occasion of celebration of International Women's Day, Embassy of India organized a seminar on "Women in India and Lebanon" with the cooperation of Elite Center of culture and education, Tripoli on 29th March 2022 in Tripoli. The speakers for the event were Ambassador Dr Suhel Ajaz Khan, President of the Elite Centre Dr Imane Kamali, Dr Zahida Jabbour, Professor and Former Secretary of Lebanese National Commission for UNESCO, Mrs Nahla Nehme, Former President of the North Educational Sector, Ministry of Education, Lebanon, Mrs Anshu Chibber, Senior Editor, CNN-News18 India and Mr Youssef Eid, an eminent Poet.


The opening remarks of the event was made by Dr Imane Kamali and was followed by an eloquent speech. She spoke elaboratively on the status of women in Lebanon, emphasized on the role of women in the political arena and the importance of equal rights for women as a prerequisite for the development of any nation. Her speech was followed by Dr Zahida Jabbour, who spoke of her experiences and advocated for equal status of women in every sector. Mrs Nahla Nehme shared her thoughts on the political role of women in the society and the need of more women faces in the parliament to transform and bring reforms for women rights. Mrs Anshu Chibber expressed her views on the gradual progress of Indian women in diversified arena. She applauded the government’s efforts of ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’ Abhiyan. She navigated through her own experiences and emphasized on the role of men in making the empowered women.


Mr Youssef Eid recited Arabic translation of poems by Rabindranath Tagore.


Ambassador Dr Suhel Ajaz Khan highlighted on the journey of women from the ancient era to the contemporary times in India. He enlightened on the status of women in the Vedic times, medieval queens and freedom fighters to that of modern India. He navigated through the progress of contemporary women in various fields, from increasing numbers in the parliament to representation in the Olympics. He also stressed on the need of equal rights for women for a nation’s development.


Ambassador presented shield to Dr Zahida Jabbour and Mrs Nahla Nehme on this auspicious occasion. Ambassador also presented a token of appreciation to Dr Imane Kamali for her endless efforts to strengthen our bilateral cultural ties and dedication for the development of culture and education.
The event got wider attention and was very well attended by the local community.
